Joy was raised in the coastal town of Arroyo Grande, California. She attended Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo for her undergraduate work. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree from the highly respected Physical Therapy program at California State University, Fresno.
Joy gained tremendous experience in her first job working for a private physical therapy practice which contracted services to Greater Bakersfield Memorial Hospital. She worked in the hospital as well as in the outpatient rehabilitation department. She has rehabilitated patients with:
- sports injuries
- joint replacement surgeries
- orthopedic surgeries and injuries
- fractures, motor vehicle accidents
- burns and open wounds
- spinal cord injuries
- work injuries
- many types of neurological diseases
In the rehabilitation hospital setting she enjoyed working as a team with speech pathologists and occupational therapists to help return their patients to as normal a quality of life as possible.
Joy joined the staff at Sierra Physical Therapy in 1985 and became the owner in 2005. She has continued extensive post graduate education becoming certified in manual therapy when few therapists had achieved this in 1987. Manual therapy uses hands on techniques such as joint and soft tissue mobilization to return the body to functional and normal movement. She is able to work with her patients to return them to Quality of Life Through Motion.
Joy has been a lifelong member of the American Physical Therapy Association, California Physical Therapy Association as well as a member of the Orthopedic and Private Practice sections.
Joy is married and enjoys living in and being a part of our mountain community. She is a member of the Mariposa United Methodist Church. Joy was a volunteer for over ten years with the Madera County Sheriff’s Working Posse, a mounted Search and Rescue organization. Joy has a passion for training, raising and riding her Arabian horses. Her first Arabian gelding trained by her since a yearling, now 27 years young, was her trusted partner in many mountain searches and rescues.
Joy is an active member of Oakhurst Sierra Sunrise Rotary and past member of the board of directors. She can be found participating in and contributing to many fundraisers to help her community and local schools.
